About Scott Dudley
I’ll briefly go through my story so you can find out see where I’ve come from, and what I’ve manager to accomplish over the years. That way you’ll be able to get an idea of whether I’m worth listening to and you can help you achieve your marketing goals. Bottom line, I’ll try to make this page about you and not me.

I grew up in Melbourne, Australia. And my earliest childhood memories that relate to what I’m doing now was using an Apple 2c in about 1985 to compile cricket averages and statistics of the current players.
Maybe this was not what the average 12 year old was doing, but it was a sign of things to come in the future.

Getting Started In The 90’s

The next few years of the 90’s was lost a bit while I was busy enjoying my early 20’s. It wasn’t until I discovered the internet and Microsoft Access in about 1997 that I decided what I wanted to do with my life.

I did a lot of night classes learning about Microsoft Access and Excel, which were relatively new at the time. Within a couple of years I landed a job working as data analyst.

Despite moving from job to job over the next 15 years I got a ton of experience with manipulating, joining, reporting and making sense out of raw data. Not just with Excel and Access, but command line SQL and a bit of Visual Basic as well.

Discovering Online Marketing

In about 2008 I even did a year and a half of Accounting at university but decided not to continue down that path. Reason being, I discovered the concept of internet marketing and quickly became hooked on it.

This was a new world for me and I loved the concept of putting up a website and being able to make sales 24/7.

But it turned out to be a LOT harder than I expected. To be the truthful, the next 4 years I struggled and bought a lot of information products to try to figure out the online marketing game. Admittedly,  I was looking for a magic pill to become rich… but realised it didn’t exist.

Time To Focus On Direct Response Copywriting

So in late 2012, I made the decision to focus on mastering direct response copywriting and become a freelancer. I read a ton of book and started getting whatever paid work I could find so I could get some experience under my belt.

Meanwhile, I was getting extremely tired of the 9-5 lifestyle and having to answer to people who I couldn’t stand. The truth was I had never found a JOB that I was happy in and wanted out. I was keen to do my own thing and become a full time copywriter.

It may have been a bit premature but by July 2014 I finally snapped and handed in my resignation with 60 days notice. Eventually, I was finally free from the chains of a job, but now had the problem of fending for myself and paying the bills.

Facing Up To Failure

In retrospect, the first year was a disaster but I made it through and eventually started regular getting agency work. Over the next couple of years I wrote a ton of emails, landing pages, white papers and bits of web copy.

It was great experience, but after I while I realised it was a tough gig being just a copywriter… and it wasn’t what I really wanted to be doing anyway. I then discovered Google Analytics and became instantly hooked on it.

I also discovered the world of conversion rate optimisation, and knew it was what I wanted to do long term, along with working on Google Analytics. I made the decision to target e-Commerce business owners and in late 2016 I managed to sign up my first client… and haven’t looked back since.

Providing Real Value To Clients

Since then I’ve managed to develop a ton of useful skills to help e-Commerce business owners, mainly by completing a lot of Conversion XL certifications… as well trying and testing things with clients.

In summary, I bring an arsenal of conversion rate optimisation skills and business intelligence skills to e-Commerce businesses. Rather than using opinions and hunches, my background enables me to purse a data-driven approach to making key business decisions.
